Strategic Energy Management
We help large commercial and industrial (C&I) customers use energy more efficiently through the long-term management of major energy-using systems. SEM adopts a comprehensive approach, emphasizing the oversight of current systems and processes while focusing on tracking, benchmarking, and evaluating performance for energy optimization. This dual strategy enables us to identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency.
SEM is a long-term effort to develop and execute a tailored energy management strategy. This strategy is created through on-site or remote visits and interviews with building owners and staff. The result is a Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) for each facility. The utility or its third-party implementer (TPIC) then reviews the SEMP with you regularly.
SEMP includes:
- Building Automation System (BAS) Improvements:
Update or add a BAS to monitor and control building operations, including training for operators - Maintenance Plan Development:
Develop a clear maintenance plan for systems and components, using best practices and allowing for easy monitoring by staff and utilities - Ongoing Engagement:
Track energy use and performance regularly to help plan energy-saving projects and encourage energy efficiency strategies and behaviors among staff - Leveraging Other Program Offerings:
Use other available program components such as Prescriptive/Custom Measures, Retro-Commissioning (RCx), and Virtual Commissioning (VCx) - Building Modeling and Benchmarking:
Utilize energy modeling tools and benchmarking to compare energy use and performance with similar buildings for better monitoring - Energy Modeling Tools:
Apply energy modeling tools to find ways for operational and capital improvement opportunities - Educational Workshops and Training:
Invite staff to join training sessions, workshops, webinars, and group/individual training sessions to enhance building operations
